About Dot Matrix

A production and design practice for live events — show graphics, media servers, and playback engineering, backed by the design and development craft to build whatever the show needs.

The Practice

Founded in 2019, Dot Matrix has been behind the graphics console for more than two hundred credited shows — most of them corporate general sessions — operating for over thirty production partners across the country.

The core of the work is show graphics and playback: media servers like Millumin, Resolume, Mitti, and Playback Pro; live production and switching in vMix; presentation systems from PowerPoint and Keynote to ProPresenter; LED and projection mapping; and hybrid broadcast with recording on Ki Pro and Epiphan hardware.

What makes the practice unusual is what sits behind the console. Dot Matrix is also a working design and engineering studio — so when a show needs custom graphics, a content pipeline, or a tool that doesn’t exist yet, it gets designed and built to the same standard it will be operated to. The gap between what’s designed and what runs never becomes someone else’s problem.

How We Work

  • 1
    Show-Ready, Not Demo-Ready

Rehearsed, redundant, and tested before doors — a live audience is not a staging environment

  • 2
    Precision at Every Layer

The same rigor applied to a keyframe, a cue stack, and a signal path

  • 3
    One Accountable Operator

The person who built the system sits at the console — no handoff gap between design and show call

  • 4
    Documented Decisions

Every engagement keeps its record — cues, versions, trade-offs, and what changed between rehearsal and show

About Derrick Meadows

Dot Matrix is the practice of Derrick Meadows — a live-show graphics operator, designer, and developer. He has run graphics and playback for more than two hundred shows, from single-room galas to multi-day corporate general sessions, working alongside technical directors, producers, and video engineers in ballrooms and convention centers across the country.

Before and between shows, Derrick designs and builds for the web — brand systems, design systems, and production tooling. That dual background is the premise of the practice: design thinking and production engineering, held to the same deadline.

Selected engineering case studies: WavAnimator, TotalRunTime.TV, and onscreen.design.
